On June 27, 2025, the newly constructed Chongqing-Xiamen High-Speed Railway—specifically the Chongqing East to Qianjiang section—officially opened for service, marking the launch of direct high-speed rail routes from both Chongqing and Chengdu to Zhangjiajie. This development significantly boosts regional tourism accessibility.

According to China's railway authorities, the fastest journey from Chongqing East to Zhangjiajie West now takes just 2 hours and 2 minutes, while travel time from Chengdu East to Zhangjiajie West has been cut to approximately 3 hours and 58 minutes. At speeds reaching 350 km/h, this new connectivity allows travelers from southwestern China to reach the scenic wonders of Zhangjiajie in under half a day.

This new route strengthens ties between the Chengdu-Chongqing economic zone and key tourist destinations in central China, injecting momentum into both tourism and cultural exchange. It’s also a major component of China’s "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" high-speed rail network, playing an essential role in improving national transport infrastructure.

Railway officials remind passengers that updated train timetables and ticket sales are rolling out gradually. Real-time schedules and fares can be checked via the “12306” official railway app or website.

Zhangjiajie’s iconic destinations—like the National Forest Park and Tianmen Mountain—are ready to welcome visitors. With this new high-speed gateway, your next magical mountain escape is now just hours away.
