Since the beginning of this century, about one-fourth of the global increase in green vegetation area has come from China.

At the press conference held by the State Council Information Office on the 25^th Oct 2024, Minister of Ecology and Environment Huang Runqiu stated, "We adhere to targeted, scientific, and lawful pollution control, and fight for clear skies, clean waters, and pure lands with higher standards. The quality of the ecological environment has significantly improved, and the public's satisfaction with the ecological environment has increased from less than 80% in 2017 to over 91% in 2023. The national forest coverage rate reached 24.02% last year. Since the beginning of this century, about one-fourth of the global increase in green vegetation area has come from China. A total of 572 demonstration zones for ecological civilization construction and 240 practice innovation bases for 'Lucid waters and lush mountains are mountains of gold and silver' have been designated, making the urban and rural ecological environment more livable."
